Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Douglas Feith holds a press conference at the Pentagon on Dec. 9, 2002, at the close of a day of meetings with a delegation from the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The talks were actually the fifth installment of a series of meetings categorized as Defense Consultative Talks. Feith said that among the issues discussed were: the UN's work in Iraq, the North Korean nuclear program, U.S. support for Taiwan, Chinese military modernization and its effect on the entire Asian region, and various U.S. - Chinese military-to-military cooperation programs. The Chinese delegation was led by Gen. Xiong Guangkai, the deputy chief of the Chinese General Staff.
