Charles Hamilton II clarifies some technical details concerning the Navy's new Littoral Combat Ship program during a Pentagon press conference on May 27, 2004. Hamilton and Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition John Young briefed reporters on the new class of surface combat vessels designed to operate in and help dominate the near-land battle space. Young announced the awarding of contracts to Lockheed Martin Corporation, Maritime Systems & Sensors in Moorestown, N.J., and General Dynamics' Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, to produce two prototype ships each.
