A waist catapult operator runs out after the launch of an F/A-18F Super Hornet to ready Catapult No. 3 for aircraft recovery on the flight deck of USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) during the Joint Air and Sea Exercise on Aug. 8, 2005. The USS Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group and the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) are participating in the third annual Joint Air and Sea Exercise 2005 with the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps in the western Pacific Ocean. The exercise focuses on integrated joint training proficiency in detecting, locating, tracking, and engaging units at sea, in the air, and on land.
