Col. Timo Beaufort, deputy commander of the Dutch army’s 11th Airmobile Brigade, presents the Orange Lanyard of the Military Order of William award to Gene Metcalfe, a World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Army 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, during a commemoration of Operation Market Garden at Groesbeek, Netherlands, Sept. 18, 2019. The commemoration honored the Allied soldiers who participated in the historic airborne operation that liberated several Dutch towns during World War II.
