Navy Rear Adm. Yvette Davids, left, stands for a photo aboard the USS Nimitz in the Pacific Ocean, Feb. 2, 2020, while serving as commander of Carrier Strike Group 11. She later became chief of staff of U.S. Southern Command. She received the 2008 MANA National Latina Organization’s “Las Primeras” award as the first Hispanic female to command a warship in the Navy.
