President Lyndon B. Johnson presents Navy Chief Petty Officer James E. Williams with the Medal of Honor, May 14, 1968. Williams, a South Carolinian of Cherokee descent, received the medal for heroic actions he took during the Vietnam War while captain of a River Patrol Force. He retired as the most decorated enlisted sailor in Navy history.
