Marine Corps 1st Lt. Robert M. Hanson of Marine Fighter Squadron 215 smiles while at an airfield on Bougainville Island, Jan. 28, 1944. Hanson was killed in a plane crash over the South Pacific a few days later. He posthumously earned the Medal of Honor.
