Air Force Capt. Zlatoslava Karga embraces her mother at their home in Vacaville, Calif., April 30, 2022. Karga was raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, immigrated to the U.S. in 2001 and commissioned into the Air Force in 2019. When the war broke out in Ukraine, she and her husband evacuated her mother to the U.S.
