Key Shooting An illustration from a March 1859 issue of Harper’s Weekly depicts U.S. Rep. Daniel E. Sickles shooting Philip Barton Key in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 27, 1859, after learning about an affair between Key and Sickles’ wife. Key died, and Sickles was later acquitted in his death.
