Depth Gauge

An employee at The Institute of Heraldry demonstrates how to use the depth gauge -- also known as a dial indicator -- to measure the depth of an insignia that’s cut into a steel die. If various areas of the design aren’t cut to a certain depth, the die goes back to the manufacturer.
