On his way to Sydney, Australia, today after his visit to India, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke via telephone with British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon about U.S. and United Kingdom efforts to relieve the humanitarian crisis in northern Iraq, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said.

Kirby, who is traveling with Hagel, said in a statement that the secretary thanked Fallon for the United Kingdom's military contributions to humanitarian relief operations and pledged to stay in contact during the crisis.

Both leaders agreed to keep each other informed about developments and to look for additional ways to coordinate military operations, he added.
