TRICARE’s first open season will allow beneficiaries to make changes to their health plans, Navy Vice Adm. Raquel C. Bono, director of the Defense Health Agency told reporters.
Open season begins Nov. 12 and runs through Dec. 10, the DHS director said, adding that beneficiaries who like their existing plans can keep them. Beneficiaries can also change their enrollment type during open season — for example, from individual to family.

- Retirees’ dental coverage will be transferred from the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program, which ends Dec. 31, to the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program. Retirees with TRICARE dental coverage and those who want to sign up for the program “must take action” on the change, Bono said.
- The dental plan open season is also Nov. 12 through Dec. 10 and retirees and their families can choose from 10 dental carriers. They can compare plan costs at TRICARE.benefeds.com.
- Also for the first time, active-duty service members’ family members enrolled in a TRICARE health plan can sign up for vision coverage through FEDVIP. Beneficiaries must make a selection in a FEDVIP vision plan during open season.
