We hear about military working dogs all of the time, but there's another animal making a big difference for one Air Force unit in Louisiana.

What started as a creative solution to a major mouse problem brought the Barksdale Air Force Base Honor Guard’s airmen closer together. Meet Captain — Air Force officer, unit mascot and mouser extraordinaire.

Barksdale Honor Guard mascot Captain brushes against her toy at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. She has been on the base since 2016 protecting Hoban Hall from mice and helping honor guard airmen cope with difficult details.

Barksdale Honor Guard mascot Captain naps in a chair at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. Captain goes home with the honor guard’s noncommissioned officer in charge, Air Force Tech. Sgt. Brandon Henry, on the weekends. When an honor guard team returns from a detail late at night, Captain is the only one there to welcome them back.
