Readout of Secretary Carter's Meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met today with Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The meeting took place in Tel Aviv ahead of Secretary Carter and Minister Liberman's participation in the arrival ceremony for Israel's first two F-35 fighter aircraft. The delivery of the F-35 is a symbol of the United States' unshakable commitment to Israel's security, and will ensure its qualitative military edge in the region for decades.
 
Secretary Carter and Minister Liberman discussed the depth and strength of the U.S.-Israeli relationship and reflected on the unprecedented defense cooperation between our two countries over the last eight years - including robust developments on missile defense, counter-tunneling, cyber security and intelligence sharing.
 
They also discussed regional security challenges in the Middle East and shared perspectives on recent advances in the campaign to defeat ISIL. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the U.S.- Israeli defense relationship and the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel's security in the future.
