Readout of Secretary Mattis' Phone Call with Qatar Minister of Defense Al-Attiyah

On December 28, 2017, Secretary James N. Mattis called the Qatar Minister of Defense Khalid Al-Attiyah.
 
The secretary congratulated Minister Al-Attiyah on his promotion to deputy prime minister and also conveyed his commitment to strengthening their partnership as he retains his duties as minister of defense.
                  
The secretary emphasized the importance of deescalating tensions so all partners in the Gulf can focus combined efforts on defeating ISIS and the threat Iran poses to the region.
