Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis spoke with Brazil Minister of Defense Joaquim Silva e Luna April 18 to discuss the strategic defense relationship between the U.S. and Brazil.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Venezuela, expressing concern about the humanitarian crisis, which directly affects Brazil. They also affirmed their commitment to deepen the long-standing defense relationship dating back to World War II.
Secretary Mattis congratulated the Minister on the Brazilian Armed Forces' support of global security and peacekeeping.
