Hagel Confers With Egyptian Defense Minister, Condemns Sinai Terror Attacks

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke today with Egyptian Defense Minister Col. Gen. Sedki Sobhy to underline the Defense Department's condemnation of the Oct. 24 terrorist attacks that killed dozens of Egyptian soldiers and wounded many more, Assistant Pentagon Press Secretary Carol Woog said.

In a statement summarizing  the phone call, Woog said Hagel expressed condolences to the families of the victims as well as wishes for speedy recovery of the wounded. Sobhy provided information about the incident and Egypt's overall security situation, thanking Hagel for American support to Egypt's security, he added.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a strong bilateral relationship and agreed to continue to engage regularly, Woog said.
