Secretary of Defense Ash Carter joined Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida for a working lunch today in Tokyo, according to a Defense Department statement issued today.
The two leaders agreed that efforts on the revision of the Defense Guidelines and on the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan should continue, the statement said.
Carter and Kishida also discussed the regional security situation, the statement said, and Carter looks forward to welcoming Kishida to the United States soon for the 2+2 meeting ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to Washington later this month.
