Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met today in Tokyo with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga to reaffirm the foundational importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance and America's rebalance to the Asia-Pacific region, according to a Defense Department statement issued today.
The two leaders discussed in detail the progress of bilateral realignment efforts of U.S. forces in Japan, the statement said.
Both leaders vowed to cooperate closely to strengthen bilateral cooperation to maintain peace and security for the region, according to the statement.
