A Marine with Marine Wing Headquarters
Squadron 2 was recognized for helping the local community during the Carteret
County Chamber of Commerce Service Person of the Quarter ceremony Nov. 13.
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Allison App, an
administrative specialist, was honored as the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry
Point Service Person of the Quarter for her dedication and commitment to
serving her community and her exemplary conduct as a Marine.
300
Hours of Volunteer Work
According to Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Ivan
Quan, an administrative specialist with the wing, App has completed more than
300 hours of volunteer work while managing the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing’s government
travel charge card program, in addition to other duties in her work section.
“Aside from her outstanding work ethic,
one of the things that caught our attention was how App interacts with the
other Marines,” Quan said. “The Marines seek her out and trust her judgment for
advice both in and out of the work environment.”
Quan added that App “is a highly
dependable asset to the office and continues to strive to better herself and
the Marines around her.”
According to App, volunteering her time
to serve others has always been something she has taken pride in. Some of the
organizations she has actively participated in include the Carteret County
Humane Society Animal Shelter, the New Bern Soup Kitchen and Creekside
Elementary School.
“Community service and volunteering are
both as important for us as the volunteers as the recipient,” App said. “It truly
is special.
Volunteering, she added, “creates
character in which the community and service members can share in camaraderie,
compassion, and confidence. That character is what I think can strengthen those
individuals that strive to be involved.”
