Defense Department Personnel Policy Leadership briefs press on Blended Retirement System, Opt-In Course Launched Press Operations

Anthony Kurta, performing the duties of undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, will brief press on the Blended Retirement System implementation policy and opt-in course for eligible service members in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973) on Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

The mandatory course for all eligible opt-in service members launched Jan. 31. The opt-in course is focused on comparing the current military High-3 retirement system and the new Blended Retirement System, along with elements on financial management and retirement planning for service members. This course is the third in a series of four courses, regarding the changes to the current Uniformed Services retirement system. The course will prepare the totality of our 2.2 million service members and their families for the official launch of the new Blended Retirement System on Jan. 1, 2018.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert O. Work signed the policy, which lays the groundwork for implementation of the Blended Retirement System under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 for the Uniformed Services.
