Press Events Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis

The secretary hosts an enhanced honor cordon and meeting welcoming Lithuania Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis to the Pentagon at 2 p.m. EST on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance. All journalists desiring to cover the honor cordon must obtain a wristband from security screening. Journalists without a Pentagon facility access card must go through security screening at the base of the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge, and will be escorted to the cordon from there. Security screening will begin at approximately 1:20 p.m. EST; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Journalists with a Pentagon facility access card, and whom have entered the building prior to 1 p.m. EST, may go through security screening at the River Entrance to obtain their wristband. All journalists wishing to cover the honor cordon, including those with a Pentagon facility access card, must be in place no later than 1:45 p.m. EST. Once security screening has been initiated at the base of the bridge, all journalists entering the building via the bridge for any reason, including those with a Pentagon facility access card not covering the honor cordon, must undergo security screening. The secretary host an awards ceremony honoring House Speaker Paul Ryan for his public service and enduring support of the U.S. military at 3:45 p.m. EST in the Pentagon Briefing Room. Both U.S. and foreign journalists without a Pentagon building pass must be pre-registered in the new Pentagon Visitor Management System to attend this ceremony; news media who are not pre-registered must call 703-697-5131 or email OSD.PA.DutyOfficer@mail.mil and provide your full name and email address no later than 9 a.m. EST, Wednesday, Nov. 28.  You will be sent a link to enter your personal information into the VMS. Media visitors should plan on being escorted from the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge or the Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility only. Please arrive no later than 45 minutes before the ceremony; you must have proof of affiliation and photo identification. Please call 703-697-5131 for any questions and for escort into the building once you arrive.  Those who wish to drive and park in the press parking area at the Pentagon, and who do not have a permanent parking pass, must call 703-697-5131 to register your vehicle.  Please be prepared to provide your name, affiliation, license tag number, and state of registration.  The ceremony will also be streamed live on defense.gov/Watch/Live-Events.
