Secretary of Defense James Mattis met with his counterpart from the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson, today at the Pentagon. The leaders discussed the National Defense Strategy, international security topics including the D-ISIS effort, Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran. They also discussed priorities for the upcoming NATO Defense Ministerial in Brussels.
Secretary Mattis emphasized the value of the U.S.-U.K. special relationship and reaffirmed the importance of credible defense capabilities. He also welcomed the release of Britain’s forthcoming Modernising Defence Programme.
The two leaders pledged to continue their dialogue on shared security interests and the U.S.-U.K. bilateral defense agenda.
