Readout of Deputy Secretary of Defense David L. Norquist's Meeting With Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić

Principle Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Charles E. Summers provided the following readout:

Deputy Secretary of Defense David L. Norquist met today with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in the Pentagon. The Deputy Secretary reaffirmed the strong and historic relationship between the United States and Serbia, opportunities for future partnership and our shared commitment to security and stability in the Western Balkans.

The Deputy Secretary noted Serbia’s role in international peacekeeping operations, encouraged training partnerships in the EUCOM area of operations, and highlighted the U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A5) as an important mechanism for regional coordination and cooperation.

He also stressed the Department’s encouragement for Serbia to build on the momentum created through the efforts of Special Presidential Envoy Richard Grenell. Serbia and Kosovo must resume efforts aimed at comprehensive normalization of relations in order to ensure a stable and secure environment in the Western Balkans.
