Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Pete Marocco and Ugandan Minister of Defense Adolf Mwesige

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Pete Marocco and Uganda’s Minister of Defense Adolf Mwesige met via teleconference to discuss a variety of topics including COVID-19 and the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), on June 10.  Flag officers from the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) also joined the call.

Marocco expressed deep appreciation for the strong partnership with Uganda and the UPDF and its participation in AMISOM.  He commended Uganda on its expert handling of the COVID-19 crisis. The Minister likewise expressed profound gratitude for all the support that DoD has provided to Uganda in the areas of logistics, engineering, medical, training, and equipment.  

Both leaders shared a sincere commitment to maintain and strengthen the partnership between DoD and the Uganda Ministry of Defense and the UPDF.
