Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen H. Hicks Delivers Virtual Keynote Remarks on Climate Change

Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen H. Hicks delivered a virtual keynote address today at the 2022 World Wide Logistics Symposium (WWLS).

This year’s symposium is focused on the “Global Security Implications of Climate Change,” and explores the potential impacts of climate change, mitigation measures, and initiatives to strengthen the whole of government approach to increasing resiliency and preparedness for climate change.

During her address, Deputy Secretary Hicks said “the science is clear – as a nation and as a Department, we must do our part to mitigate climate change. As the President announced in November of last year, this means reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”

Deputy Secretary Hicks also announced that in the next several weeks, she will be issuing a Department-wide memorandum that will emphasize energy supportability and demand reduction.

The Deputy Secretary’s full remarks are available here.

Video of her comments is available here.

WWLS runs from March 8-9, and is an annual planning and strategy meeting to bring together key logistics stakeholders across the Department of Defense, U.S. interagency, Allies and partners to discuss strategic direction, readiness challenges, and logistics concepts as they relate to the Joint Logistics Enterprise.
