Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Washington to discuss the United States’ support for Ukraine’s military in the face of Russia’s renewed offensive in the Donbas. The two leaders discussed the ongoing provision of defensive security assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including an additional $800 million package announced by President Biden earlier today. The United States has now committed more than $4 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration, including approximately $3.4 billion since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked invasion on February 24. Secretary Austin commended the bravery of the Ukrainian people and reaffirmed that the United States will continue to utilize all available tools to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces in the face of Russian aggression.
