Senior delegations from the U.S. Department of Defense and the Egyptian Ministry of Defense met for the 33rd U.S.-Egypt Military Cooperation Committee (MCC) at the Pentagon from September 14-15, 2022. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Dr. Celeste Wallander and Assistant Minister of Defense for International Relations Major General Mohamed Salah led the U.S. and Egyptian delegations, respectively.
The MCC is the premier bilateral strategic dialogue between U.S. and Egyptian defense officials. This year's delegations exchanged views on regional threats and U.S. and Egyptian security priorities. Specific areas of discussion included U.S.-Egypt interoperability, defense planning, and continued coordination on border security and counterterrorism efforts. Officials also discussed security assistance, strategic competition, and global priorities.
Throughout the dialogue, Dr. Wallander and Major General Salah reaffirmed the U.S. and Egyptian commitment to the strategic partnership and to military-to-military cooperation.
