Principal Director for European and NATO Policy Andrew Winternitz and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Doug Jones led a U.S. delegation to Riga, Latvia on September 27-28 for the annual U.S.-Baltic Dialogue with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Allied delegations were led by Estonian Undersecretary for Defence Policy Tuuli Duneton, Latvian Under Secretary of State-Policy Director Rolands Henins, and Lithuanian Defense Policy Director Vaidotas Urbelis.
The leaders discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, implementation of decisions from the NATO Summit in Madrid, the People’s Republic of China, and U.S. force posture in the Baltics.
They also participated in a tabletop exercise to explore policy options for a unified response in crisis situations.
