Today, Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder announced that Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III issued a Memorandum on Implementation of the Naming Commission's Recommendations.
The Naming Commission completed its analysis on September 19, and provided Secretary Austin with its final report. After reviewing the report, the Secretary has concurred with all of the Naming Commission's recommendations and is committed to implementing them as soon as possible. Subsequently, Secretary Austin has directed DoD leaders and the Services to begin implementation immediately following the NDAA-mandated 90-day waiting period. Secretary Austin is grateful for the work of the Commission and thanks them for their dedicated efforts to choose names that echo with honor, patriotism, and history, and that will continue to inspire generations of Service members to defend our democracy and our Constitution.
