Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks Visits Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific

Attributable to Pentagon Spokesman Eric Pahon:

Deputy Secretary Hicks visited Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific today to see the Navy's most cutting-edge, multi-domain unmanned technologies and command-and-control programs, especially as they relate to operations in the Indo-Pacific.

Among the unmanned technologies she viewed, was "Sea Hunter" – an autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) launched in 2016 as part of the DARPA Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program to discuss advancements, challenges, and strategic advantages of autonomous technology and machine learning capabilities.

She also received a briefing on the Navy's Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) program, "Project Overmatch,"to continue her two-day look into service-specific strengths and challenges which impact JADC2 implementation across the joint force. During the brief, Navy officials highlighted their work on integrating cybersecurity into software development and continuous delivery / continuous integration software pipelines.

Throughout her travel, Deputy Secretary Hicks focused on linking the department's resources to our strategic competition priorities, including the pacing challenge of China, and ensuring DoD remains the world leader in cutting-edge innovation.
