Pentagon Spokesman Lt. Col. Dave Herndon provided the following readout:
Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl and Lieutenant General Belkhir El Farouk, Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Southern Zone Commander, co-chaired the 12th U.S.-Morocco Defense Consultative Committee (DCC) from November 7-8, 2022 at the Pentagon. The DCC reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Moroccan bilateral security and defense relationship.
The U.S. and Morocco seek to continue bolstering the strategic partnership and work together to achieve goals outlined in the 2020-2030 U.S.-Morocco Roadmap for Defense Cooperation. The DCC was an opportunity for both sides to review progress made on the recent Bilateral Country Action Plan (BCAP) and to ensure continued progress towards the goals of the Roadmap.
Delegations from the U.S. – including the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of State, and the Utah National Guard, which maintains a State Partnership Program – and Morocco discussed a wide range of topics including security cooperation, modernization and interoperability, intelligence capacity building, peacekeeping operations, countering illicit activities, and Morocco's role as a regional security leader. The U.S. and Morocco agreed to continue to work together on counterterrorism, maritime security in the Mediterranean, and other pressing security issues on the African continent.
