Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, Christopher Maier, met with Lithuanian Vice Minister of National Defence for Defence Policy and Planning, Žilvinas Tomkus, on November 8, 2022. The two leaders affirmed the close bilateral special operations partnership between the United States and Lithuania, and discussed continued collaboration on joint exercises, operations, and training. The two discussed opportunities for continued partnership in the era of strategic competition and integrated deterrence, as well as joint deployment opportunities for U.S. and Lithuanian special operations forces (SOF). ASD Maier recognized Lithuania as a leader in resistance expertise, and VM Tomkus expressed appreciation for continued U.S. support in global defense efforts. Both leaders agreed to continue strong SOF collaboration efforts between the two countries.
