Readout of U.S.-Israel Defense Policy Advisory Group

Pentagon Spokesman Lt. Col. David Herndon provided the following readout:

Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl led a senior-level delegation to Israel for the annual Defense Policy Advisory Group (DPAG) on November 17 with Israel's co-chair Ministry of Defense Director General (DG) Amir Eshel.

The dialogue reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the United States and Israel, and the U.S. commitment to ensuring Israel's Qualitative Military Edge. The leaders discussed the wide range of threats posed by Iran's nuclear program, Iranian support for terrorism and regional aggression, and steps to advance cooperation to address these threats. Under Secretary Kahl and DG Eshel also led discussions on expanding Israel's bilateral and multilateral relationships in the Middle East, and opportunities to further integrate Israel into U.S. Central Command. Other sessions of the dialogue focused on defense acquisition, emerging technology and capabilities, and increasing collaboration on climate resiliency and space.

Since 1999, the DPAG has played an important role in advancing the U.S.-Israel defense and security partnership. Under Secretary Kahl last chaired the DPAG with Mr. Eshel in Washington in August 2021.

Under Secretary Kahl also thanked DG Eshel for his partnership with the department during his tenure as Director General. The Under Secretary invited the Israeli delegation to Washington, DC for the DPAG in 2023.
