Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl met with Israel Defense Minister Benjamin "Benny" Gantz, November 17. Under Secretary Kahl and Minister Gantz discussed ways to advance cooperation to address the threats posed by Iran's nuclear program and its destabilizing activities across the region and beyond. Under Secretary Kahl emphasized that the U.S. commitment to Israel's security is ironclad.
The two leaders exchanged views on global security issues, including shared concerns regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Under Secretary Kahl underscored Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism, and also emphasized the importance of Israel taking steps to deescalate tensions in the West Bank. Under Secretary Kahl thanked Minister Gantz for the close partnership during his tenure as Defense Minister.
