Department of Defense Spokesperson Lisa Lawrence provided the following readout:
On 11 July 2023, the United States and the Republic of Korea held the annual Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Committee plenary session at the Pentagon. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Policy Richard Johnson led the U.S. side, and Deputy Director General Sung Gu Kim of the Ministry of National Defense led for the ROK.
The two allies discussed regional WMD threats, ongoing Cooperative Threat Reduction program activities, upcoming U.S.-ROK CWMD exercises, and issues relevant to consequence management. The engagement strengthened the ironclad U.S.-ROK alliance and advanced bilateral progress in this important mission area. The CWMD Committee plenary was an important milestone in our continued efforts towards the development of joint US-ROK CWMD defense and response capabilities and cooperation.
