Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy Travel to Japan

Attributable to Department of Defense Spokesperson Cmdr. Jessica Anderson:

Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plumb will depart for an official visit to Japan this week to deepen U.S.-Japan Alliance cooperation on space, extended deterrence, and missile defense.

In Tokyo, Assistant Secretary Plumb will consult with Government of Japan officials concerning cooperative initiatives in the space domain.  He will pay a visit to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) facilities in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, where he will receive an update on the integration of space surveillance payloads with Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS).  ASD Plumb will further consult with officials from Japan's Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and National Space Policy Secretariat on other space initiatives, missile defense collaboration, and extended deterrence policy.

Assistant Secretary Plumb's visit to Japan underscores the U.S.-Japan Alliance's role as the cornerstone of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific theater.
