Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant today to discuss Israel's shift to low-intensity operations in Gaza, the distribution of humanitarian assistance in Gaza, instability in the West Bank, and a range of regional security matters. The Secretary emphasized the need to accelerate humanitarian assistance across Gaza and protect civilians. Secretary Austin also acknowledged Israeli concerns about the Lebanon border and reiterated U.S. resolve to prevent the situation from escalating.
