Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks hosted the Defense Innovation Board's winter meeting at the Pentagon today in a closed, classified session.
During this session, the Defense Innovation Board members provided an update on their work, and briefed findings and recommendations from two publicly-released studies.
Board members highlighted the need for a unified, scalable data access approach to accelerate adoption of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for the warfighter. They recommended modernizing security processes, standardizing contract bidding practices, implementing dual-use technology and cross-functional teams, and centralizing enterprise licensing.
Board members also emphasized the importance of senior leadership in fostering a culture of innovation and risk-taking and holding all leaders accountable for innovation outcomes.
Deputy Secretary Hicks provided an update on the Department's innovation efforts and discussed scaling new technology and innovation initiatives.
She also highlighted the urgency of adopting emerging capabilities that are redefining warfighting and working better with our allies and partners on technology and innovation.
Deputy Secretary Hicks thanked the members of the Defense Innovation Board for their passion and commitment to driving change in support of the national defense mission.
