Ms. Jana Nelson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs met with Peruvian Minister of Defense Walter Astudillo at the Pentagon on June 26.
Minister Astudillo and DASD Nelson discussed air domain awareness capability development and countering transnational criminal organizations, as well as the effects of climate change, which is increasing the frequency and intensity of natural disasters that affect Peru. They also exchanged views on expansion of defense infrastructure, regional coordination, and other frameworks to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The meeting reaffirmed the United States' strong defense and security partnership with Peru, as the two nations work together to promote a stable and secure hemisphere based on a foundation of respect for democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.
