The Department of Defense (DoD) is selected as a winner of the 2024 Service to the Citizen Award for the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC)-led project team focused on improving access to DoD Identification (ID) cards for service members, retirees, and their families.

This team was comprised of representatives from DMDC, Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Space Force, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Public Health Service, Coast Guard, and the Government Publishing Office (GPO), partnering together to develop and deliver an automated solution for active, retired, and disabled Uniformed Service members and their families to renew their Uniformed Services Identification (USID) cards online and receive their new USID card in the mail.

"In just over a year since going live, over 100,000 USID cards have been issued with this new capability," said DMDC Director Sam Yousef. "Individuals no longer have to travel near or far to a DoD ID card facility and wait in person to receive their USID card. The ID card facilities can focus more on those needing immediate, in-person support, for things like CAC issuance or adding a new family member."

The Service to the Citizen Program recognizes public servants who demonstrate excellence in delivering services that impact the publics' lives and rebuild trust in government. The DMDC-led team was one of six teams from DoD to be selected as winners of the 2024 awards, including:

  • U.S. Navy for MyNavy Career Center
  • U.S. Naval Academy for Leadership, Ethics, and Law Department
  • U.S. Air Force
  • Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for Proactive Performance Monitoring
  • U.S. Air Force Reserve Command

The award winners will be honored at the award ceremony for the 2024 Service to the Citizen Awards: Champions of Change Program on September 13, 2024 in Washington, D.C.
