On April 3, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth held a call with his United Kingdom counterpart, Secretary of State for Defence John Healey. Secretary Hegseth shared an update on the recent strikes against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen and discussed further options for ensuring free and open shipping lanes. Secretary Healey expressed support for restoring navigational freedom for commercial and naval vessels in the region. Secretary Hegseth also thanked the UK for its leadership in chairing the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. The two leaders agreed to closely coordinate on these issues moving forward.
