Secretary of Defense Ash Carter Announces Peter Cook as Pentagon Press Secretary

Today, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced that Peter Cook will serve as Pentagon press secretary and his principal spokesman.

"I am pleased to announce that Peter Cook will be joining my team as our spokesperson here at the Pentagon," said Secretary Carter. "Peter's years of experience in the national media, coupled with his personal integrity and nonpartisan approach, make him an ideal fit to represent this institution during a crucial period for our nation and our military. I want to thank Peter for taking on this challenging role, and for his commitment to helping the American people better understand the efforts of this Department and the people who work here, both in and out of uniform."

Cook most recently worked as Bloomberg TV's chief Washington correspondent and has had a distinguished journalist career with a focus on business and government. His previous media experience includes reporting from the Pentagon for NBC News and MSNBC as well as Washington bureau chief for EnergyNewsLive. Cook also spent 10 years in local television as a reporter and anchor. He is a graduate of Duke University and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Cook will join the Office of the Secretary of Defense in July.
