More than 5 million Americans are part of today's military family; There are almost 2 million military children; One in four military spouses are unemployed and actively seeking work; Children of active-duty service members typically move six to nine times between kindergarten and high school graduation.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter has launched a national discussion on building the Force of the Future and what the Defense Department must do to change and adapt to maintain its superiority well into the 21st century.
DoD plays a vital role in supporting the U.S. government's preparations for and responses to a wide range of threats posing the greatest risks to national security -- threats that include acts of terrorism, cyber threats, pandemics, and catastrophic natural disasters. We can all play a role in preventing suicide, but many people don't know what they can do to support the service member or veteran who is going through a difficult time. The Defense Department's theme for Suicide Prevention Month is: BeThere - your action could save a life.
Military children make up a very special part of our nation's population. Although young, these brave sons and daughters stand in steadfast support of their military parents. To honor their unique contributions and sacrifices on behalf of our country, each April is designated the Month of the Military Child.
On June 10, 2016, the U.S. Department of Agriculture kicked off the 8th annual governmentwide Feds Feed Families Food Drive Campaign. The campaign will run through August 31, 2016. The 2016 FFF slogan is "Feds Fighting Hunger." Defense Department employees nationwide have been asked to answer the call to fight hunger. We ask you to step up to meet this challenge. Together we CAN fight hunger; donate what you CAN to help! Every contribution, big and small, will make a difference in the lives of those in need! In his memo, Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work expressed his support of the campaign and encouraged the workforce to donate nonperishable food items.
