Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work Hosts Spirit of Hope Award Ceremony
Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work will host the 2016 Spirit of Hope Award ceremony at 10 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Pentagon Auditorium (BH650). The SoH Award, named after Bob Hope, is awarded to individuals or organizations that epitomize selfless service and dedicated commitment to our military. The military departments, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Staff nominate and sponsor a recipient that best characterizes the values that Mr. Hope embodied: duty, honor, courage, loyalty, commitment, integrity, and selfless dedication. Each recipient will receive a bronze medallion bearing a likeness of Mr. Hope.
This year's recipients are: Kellie Pickler and Kyle Jacobs; retired Col. Jennifer Pritzker; Horses Helping Heroes Project, represented by founder Debi Demick; Marc Tarter; retired Cdr. Michael Smith; and Timothy Bryant.
Journalists covering the ceremony must be in place in the Pentagon Auditorium by 9:45 a.m. EDT. Foreign journalists without a Pentagon building pass must plan on being escorted from the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge only, or, if arriving at the Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility, must contact 703-697-5131 a minimum of one hour prior to your arrival. Please arrive no later than 1 hour before the ceremony if coming by Metro. U.S. journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge or the Pentagon Metro Visitors Entrance only.
