WASP Pilot Hazel Ying Lee, one of two Asian-American women accepted into the Women Airforce Service Pilots, or WASPs, sits aboard a Link trainer. During World War II, the Army Air Forces set up the organization, which functioned as a paramilitary body of female pilots. Although these women were not formally in the military, they flew military planes in a variety of noncombat roles. Lee died in a crash in late 1944.
