Band of Brothers
U.S. paratroopers of Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, are depicted in "We Were a Band of Brothers," a painting by John Shaw. Here, the Screaming Eagles are at Upottery Airfield in England, preparing for Operation Overlord, better known as D-Day, during which more than 156,000 U.S. and Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, during World War II. Shaw, a commercial illustrator and graphic designer, developed an interest in World War II and began painting military-themed art. As a result, he became an acclaimed historical aviation and military artist. Besides military themes, he has created commercial artwork for many clients.
